Negative taken for March 1, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "GI Center Meant A Lot to Its Clients," E5:2. During World War II, this building at the corner of 3rd and Main streets in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, was the Soldier Service Center. The center provided lounges, game and reading rooms, and information about housing, churches, and off-base entertainment for thousands of soldiers and their families. It was transferred to the United Service Organizations (USO) early in the war. The building still serves as a recruiting headquarters for the four branches of the American military. Originally the building was designed and constructed as a bank.
